Nollaig O Gadhra
Nollaig O Gadhra was -- exactly as the Taoiseach described him -- a proud Irishman who always promoted Ireland's culture and heritage. His huge presence is made more apparent by his sad passing on Wednesday August 13 at his home in Na Forbacha, County Galway, after a heart attack.
John White
John White, who died on August 9 in Dublin, was a lifelong, committed trade unionist and educationalist who in 1990 was elected President of the Irish National Teachers' Organisation.
Lita Roza
Lita Roza, who died on August 14, aged 82, sang the novelty hit How Much is That Doggie in the Window?, which in 1953 made her the first British female vocalist to top the recently-instituted charts.
